Stations of the Cross are now underway with large crowds through the streets of Sydney as the stations are held at following locations;

3 pm Station 1: The Last Supper with a special appearance by the Holy Father
St Mary's Cathedral
Performance by St Mary's Cathedral choir 

3:18 pm Station 2: The Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane where Christ prepares for his death
The Domain

3:31 pm Station 3: Jesus before the Sanhedrin
The Art Gallery of NSW

4:01 Station 4: Jesus before Pontius Pilate
On the steps of the Sydney Opera House

Station 5: Jesus is whipped and crowned

Station 6:Jesus carries his Cross

Jesus, carrying the cross is transported across the Harbour to Darling Harbour on a floating pontoon accompanied by two Roman soldiers.

As the sun has just gone down there is a cold chill in the air with a stiff breeze. One can only feel for the participants who aren't rugged up.

There is an indigenous theme here. The place of Simon is played by an indigenous man in indigenous dress.

Jesus now walks the long distance up to Barangaroo, as he passes, many pilgrims are openly in tears.

Jesus is almost dragged part of the way up to the cross, stumbling many times.

5:10 Station 9: Jesus is stripped and nailed

5:40 pm Station 13:The body of Jesus is brought down from the Cross

As Jesus  body is taken down from the cross Andrew Lloyd Webber's version of Pie Jesu is played.

(Pie Jesu is the title given to musical settings of the final couplet of the Dies Irae, normally a part of the Requiem Mass. Pie is conventionally translated as "sweet" here, but normally means "dutiful", "godly" or "kind".)

History:

The history of the Stations of the Cross dates to the early days of the Church when pilgrims visited the holy sites in Jerusalem to walk the path Christ followed to Calvary.The pilgrims then brought the devotion back to their home countries and constructed replicas of the sacred sites.
