Bells to Chime: St Mary's Cathedral UPDATE: National Trust have advised that the talk by renowned campanologist Dr Woolford entitled 'Touch of
Bells' (set for tonight, July 11) and a talk that was to be given by Paul Walsh
on 'Sacred Architecture' (that was set for July 14) have both been postponed.
CORRECTION: The 'Pope Benedict
XVI Surprise Major' will not at 6pm as earlier reported but will ring from St Mary's Cathedral at 6.30pm. (This has since been modified). St Mary's Basilica Society of Change Ringers will still ring the 1280
'changes' of the bells consecutively from 730 to close to an hour.
A special bell-ringing sequence to
honour Pope Benedict's journey to Australia will be played by 8 bell-ringers on
14 bells of St Mary's Cathedral, on Friday, July 11, at 6.30pm. You'll be able to
hear it clearly from Hyde Park or the Piazza.
