The Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is one of Australia’s best known icons and is one of the world's most distinctive 20th century buildings.
Situated on Sydney Harbour and alongside the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the two impressive constructions work together to create one of the world’s most magnificent outdoor settings. Based on the competition winning entry by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the Opera House was among the 20 selected finalists in the 2007 New Seven Wonders of the World project.
As well as playing host to many touring theatre, ballet, and musical companies, the Opera House is the home of Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony.
During WYD2008, there will be some concerts and catechesis sessions held at the Opera House and there will also be an opportunity for pilgrims to silently pray with Adoration also being held at this most exciting and symbolic Australian location.
