Mexico Profile with Maria Du Solier.  

 

Maria du Solier, 21, from Veracruz, Mexico is living in Sydney to help prepare for World Youth Day.

1.   What's the connection between WYD, your country and you?

Mexico has always been a very Catholic country, and very close to the Pope. Thats why for me it has always been important to follow and support the Pope's requests that lead me and many other Mexicans to WYD.


2.   How many pilgrims are coming to Sydney from your country? 

There are around 2,000 Mexican pilgrims coming.


3.   What are some of the main Dioceses, cities and groups represented?
 

Pilgrims are coming from different movements and dioceses all over Mexico -  such as Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara.


4.   Will your country be represented in the 'Papal Plate' WYD Soccer Competition? 

I think there is a little group of Mexicans trying to score into the competition.

5.   Are there any migrants from Mexico living in Australia - if so how many?

Yes, there's a lot of mexican people living in Australia. Most of them young people in exchange study programs.

 
6.   Any National Foods of interest? 

Definitaly, "chiles en nogada" - which can't be translated - It is a typical salty or savoury dish. They're like baked wrapped green chilies, covered with melted cheese.

 
7.   Any National Past-Times of interest? 

Fútbal as in Soccer, it's a very popular sport back home.

 
8.   Describe your country in 3 words? 

Heroic, rich in culture and loyal.
