Randwick Racecourse.
Randwick Racecourse is the site of the
Papal Vigil on the Saturday of World Youth Day week and the Papal Mass
on the Sunday morning.
Royal Randwick Racecourse is located approximately 6 km from the Sydney CBD and is home to many of Australia’s foremost racing events including the Australian Derby, the Doncaster Handicap and the Sydney Cup.
Other significant events at Randwick Racecourse have included the Rolling Stones concert during their 1973 Pacific Tour and Papal Masses, celebrated by Pope Paul VI in 1970 and Pope John Paul in 1986 and 1995 which was the occasion of the Beatification ceremony of Blessed Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint.
Randwick racecourse has also appeared in several films, including Mission: Impossible II.
Formally known as Royal Randwick, the Racecourse is operated by the Australian Jockey Club.
