The Meat Pie THE AUSTRALIAN MEAT PIE
The meat pie is seen as a
quintessential icon in Australian culture.
It is estimated that a
total of 150,000 meat pies are consumed in Australia a day.
Usually
filled with minced meat and gravy and covered with tomato sauce, the
pie also can have cheese, bacon, egg, meat substitute faux,
vegetables and the now fashionable pizza flavor containing capsicum,
cheese, tomato and salami.
What makes the meat pie so palatable to
Australia is the cheap production costs due to its large beef
reserves and for this reason is considered to be of the highest
quality because of Australia’s tight regulation of cattle farming.
It is without doubt an icon in Australia associated with the typical
Aussie bloke, along with Ute’s, cold beer and vegemite.
