Southern Cross Precinct

Southern Cross Precinct (SCP) is the name given to the area of Centennial Park and Randwick Racecourse that has been dedicated to activities for World Youth Day.

In July, Randwick Racecourse is the location of the largest gathering of people in Sydney ever! Larger even then the Olympics with up to 500, 000 pilgrims attending!! The event that will attract all of these people is an overnight vigil with Pope Benedict and a sleep out at the racecourse. The final Mass of World Youth Day will be held at the Southern Cross Precinct with about 200, 000 pilgrims watching the Mass on screens in Centennial Park and another 400, 000 inside Randwick where the mass itself will be.

After the final Mass activities from the Youth Festival, part of World Youth Day, will be on at Randwick Racecourse. Immediately after the Final Mass there will be an outdoor music concert featuring many different artists and acts; from indigenous song and dance to the Notre Dame Girl’s Choir from California. This concert will wrap up the major events at Randwick with the festivities continuing elsewhere across the city.

There are no Youth Festival events at Centennial Park (SCP) per se.
