French Celebrations for Bastille Day The Bayside Auditorium of the Sydney Conventions centre was the scene for over 3,000 French speaking pilgrims to celebrate their national day, Bastille Day today at WYD.
After celebrating Mass the French speaking pilgrims stream out of the auditorium singing their national anthem, the La Marseillaise, at full strength, followed by a number of other songs and chante.
A number of pilgrims waved French and other flags with extendable flag poles reaching up to 15 feet high.
Later in the week over 30 national and region gatherings will be held with the biggest being:
* the multinational Neo-Catechumenal Way lay movement at The Domain (up to 25,000 pilgrims expected)
* the Lebanese Maronite community at Parramatta Stadium (20,000)
* The Italian Scalabrini community at Club Marconi in Bossley Park (15,000) and
* 12,000 from the USA, also in The Domain
