Bishop Joseph Pepe of Las Vegas There were tears and laughter at one catechesis session for WYD pilgrims at the Love and Life Site at Broadway in inner Sydney today.
Bishop Pepe from Las Vegas spoke on various aspects of the Catholic faith including Baptism, Confession and especially the Holy Eucharist. Pilgrims were especially moved when he spoke of a time when he was called to the hospital for a little new born baby girl. The baby whose mother was not Catholic, but the father was was not expected to live very long. To the surprise of Bishop Pepe the parents asked for the baby to be baptised and confirmed with the name of Clare. Across Sydney today Catechesis got underway for pilgrims at numerous different locations including many churches. After lunch at two o'clock the Youth Festival started with over 150 events. One highlight already was Cardinal Pell's address to the Australian Catholic Student's Association (www.catholicstudents.org.au) at the Great Hall of Sydney University, which was followed by a meeting of Dominicans. |
